Friday within the Octave of Easte

John 21:1-14

In today’s gospel, Jesus prepares breakfast for the apostles after His Death and Resurrection. They are so ecstatic to see Him, they rush out of the sea to see Him. They had been fishing for the night. This appearance of Jesus to them is such a boost of faith and confidence for them. They have still not received the Holy Spirit, so they are reserved and unsure of their mission. But this visit by the Lord is just what they need.
The timidity of the disciples is evident in the text: “Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.”

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
