Friday within the Octave of Easte
John 21:1-14In today’s gospel, Jesus prepares breakfast for the apostles after His Death and Resurrection. They are so ecstatic to see Him, they rush out of the sea to see Him. They had been fishing for the night. This appearance of Jesus to them is such a boost of faith and confidence for them. They have still not received the Holy Spirit, so they are reserved and unsure of their mission. But this visit by the Lord is just what they need.
The timidity of the disciples is evident in the text: “Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.”
