Feast Day of The Baptism of the Lord

Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

In today’s gospel we have two validations of Jesus as the Messiah. First, John the Baptist tells his followers that one mightier than him is to come. And this mighty one will baptize with the holy Spirit. Following this, Jesus is baptized and praying and the heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends, and we hear the infamous words of Our Father in Heaven say, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Quite a powerful gospel reading for today. Reflect on it in wonder and awe.

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
