Twenty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23In today’s gospel reading, the Pharisees complain to Jesus that His disciples eat without the ritual washing of hands. Jesus responds with a comment about the hypocritical nature of the Pharisees. He said, “You disregard God’s commandment but cling to human tradition.” Jesus goes on to explain clearly that what defiles a man comes from within: adultery, greed, deciet, etc.
This is a good time for us to examine ourselves. What is inside of me? Are my motives pure? Or do they have an intention that is selfish?
Lord, help me to be more concerned about purity of my heart than clean hands.
