Blessed Are the Pure of Heart
Matthew 6:19-23“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
This quote from Matthew is part of today’s gospel. It seems as though the last sentence goes along with our beatitude for Friday: “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” If our heart is pure, our intentions are pure also. If our eyes are on the Lord, our heart will be there as well. He is our treasure. He is where our heart should be.
When you are having a good day, look intently at a picture of Jesus. Talk to Him. Tell Him your troubles. Tell Him how much you love Him.
Then look at Him on a day when you have not been so faithful, on a day when you are arguing with someone. It is hard to look at Him with that same devotion and love.
Keep your heart pure. Strive to be like Him.
