Feast Day of the Body and Blood of Christ
Corpus ChristiJohn 6:51-58
In this passage from the gospel of John, Jesus identifies himself as the “Living bread come down from Heaven.” And here he invites all to eat His Body and drink His Blood. Many of the disciples leave Jesus at this point because they cannot follow this teaching. Jesus goes on to say, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me.
We are invited to commune with Jesus in a deeply personal way. Our belief in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist enables us to genuinely live in God, and have God genuinely live in us.
May Jesus Christ be praised! Now and forever!
