Pentecost Sunday
John 20:19-23Pentecost is another example of the Mercy of God. We see Jesus come to the disciples in the Upper Room and he begins His visit by giving them His peace. He wants the disciples to be at ease. Then He shows them His wounds. Look, it is really Me, He seems to be saying to them. Don’t be afraid, it’s just Me.
Only after He has put the disciples at ease, does He give them the Holy Spirit, the purpose for which He came that day. He wanted them relaxed, calm, so that they could fully take in the magnitude of the gift He was bringing.
And with this gift of the Holy Spirit, the gift of Love, He establishes confession, the forgiveness of sins.
He seems to say, Rest in Me, be at ease, recieve this wonderful gift of love and do as I do. Be merciful.
