Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 5:17-37Today’s gospel reading is a series of teachings from the Lord. They are all so valuable, it is difficult to focus on just one. The reading begins with Jesus telling us to obey the commandments. He says those who follow and teach these commandments will be called great in heaven. He then expounds on what it means not to “kill” someone. The word “kill” extends to hurting others with our words and being angry with them. Jesus also addresses divorce, adultery, and swearing an oath. These teachings are very applicable today. We have much to contemplate with today’s gospel. Don’t let the day pass without spending some time mediatating on one or all of these teachings.
