Feast of The Presentation of the Lord
Luke 2:22-40In today’s gospel passage we hear the story of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. Because the qualities of Jesus and Mary that we reflect on each Sunday are both Humility, let us reflect on the humility of the characters in today’s reading. First of all we encounter Joseph and Mary bringing Jesus according to the prescription of the law. They were pure and holy people who were raising the Son of God. And yet they humbly followed the law. They present their child along with the prescribed offering. Then we hear of Simeon and Anna. Both of these people were faithful servants of the Lord. They knew their scriptures well, awaiting the Messiah. They recognize Jesus and they praise God. They do not hold themselves as privileged individuals. They praise God and give glory to Him. Humility is so apparent. Let us take the next week to cultivate humility in ourselves, aiming for one example of it daily in us.
