Friday of The Passion of The Lord
Good FridayAt Services on Good Friday, we commeorate the day with the reading of the Passion according to John. It is a solemn day of prayer anad fasting in honor of the sacrifice of Jesus.
According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Church is only permitted to administer two sacraments: Anointing of the Sick and Penance, on both Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
The Good Friday Service is not a mass. It includes the reading of the Passion, as noted. This is considered the Liturgy of the Word, which can include a homily. Following that, are the Solemn Intercessions, The Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion. Communion is distributed from hosts that were consecrated the night before at the Mass of the Last Supper, Holy Thursday.
