Third Sunday of Easter
Luke 24:13-35The gospel story today recounts the story of the Road to Emmaus. This is the event of the two disciples leaving the saddness of the crucifixion of Jesus, dejected and downtrodden. They are traveling back to their home in Emmaus. Jesus joins them, without thier recognition of Him, and opens their minds to the fulfillment of scripture in His life and death. They both fail to recognize Jesus until He blesses and breaks bread with them. At this, their eyes are opened, they recognize Him and He vanishes from their sight.
This gospel story never fails to bring the feeling of excitement and hope. It also enkindles love for the Eucharist and the desire to love Jesus more ardently in the reception of the Eucharist.
