Friday after Ash Wednesday
Matthew 9: 14-15In today's gospel, the topic of fasting is addressed. Fasting is one of the hallmarks of Christian Lent. Lenten fasting is a denial of self for the purpose of giving sacrifice to God.
Matthew's gospel: "Then the disciples of John approached him and said, 'Why do we and the Pharisees fast [much], but your disciples do not fast?' Jesus answered them, 'Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.'" Our bridegroom has been taken away and now we fast.
But let us fast for the Glory of God, not for our own recognition.
