Generosity of Heart
“A Missionary Heart”Pope Francis speaks of having a missionary heart to evangelize. Christopher West comments on this. “A person with a missionary heart does not look at the world through binoculars. He doesn’t stand at a distance from the sheep, but gets up close and ‘takes on their smell.’ And when he finds one injured or one that has lost its way, he cares for it tenderly and with compassion. For he knows that he, too, is a wounded sheep in need of the tender care of others.
A person with a missionary heart knows well the difference between the sin and the sinner. He speaks always with clarity and charity. He knows that sin is a disordered attachment to something good, is able to affirm that good, and patiently helps a person redirect his desires toward the ultimate good (God) that alone can satisfy. And he does so without any hint of self-righteousness, superiority, or condemnation of others.”
