Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 15:21-28The beauty of today's gospel comes in two profound statements.
"“Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David." and
"“Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”
Often I say the first statement. I only wish I would be so intelligent as to say the second. The Canaanite worman's insight is so impressive.
Yes Lord, I want your mercy--always. And Yes Lord, I know I am unworthy to eat at the Master's table. But You, Jesus, tell me I am a child of God. You, Jesus, tell me I am worthy.
I want the scraps, Jesus. I want to eat at Your Table. I want to claim my status as Your Daughter. Son of David, have mercy on me.
